Janice Loeb (* 6. December 1902 in the USA ; † 18th February 1996 in New Orleans , Louisiana ) was an American cinematographer , film director , screenwriter and film producer responsible for their documentary One of the Pacific (The Quiet One) ( 1948) was nominated for the Oscar for Best Documentary as well as Best Original Screenplay.

Life

Janice Loeb worked for the London- based Institute of World Affairs in the mid-1940s and was one of the editors of the report German radio propaganda: report on home broadcasts during the war in 1944, along with several other authors .

In 1948 she was also the cinematographer, screenwriter and producer of the documentary One of the Pacific (The Quiet One) , which directed by Sidney Meyers with Gary Merrill , Donald Thompson and Clarence Cooper was born. This 65-minute film was about the rehabilitation of an emotionally disturbed African-American boy at Wiltwyck School who is unwanted, misunderstood, and tormented inside. For this film, she was nominated for the Oscar for best documentary at the Academy Awards in 1949 . At the same time it was for one of the Pacific in 1950 with Helen Levitt and Sidney Meyers for the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay nomination.

Also in 1948, In the Street, her second and last film was made. In this documentary 16-minute short film about street life in New York's Spanish Harlem district , she was again a camerawoman and director at the same time.
