Janina Hettich grew up with two younger siblings in Lauterbach . At the age of ten she started cross-country skiing on roller skis, two years later she joined the ski club in Schönwald and began regular biathlon training there. In 2012 she moved to the ski boarding school in Furtwangen and after graduating from high school in 2014, she became a competitive athlete and became a member of the Bundeswehr sports promotion group in Todtnau .
In 2015, Hettich made its international debut at the World Youth Championships in Minsk - Raubitschy , where it was already among the top ten. The following year she took part in the Junior World Championships and completed her first races in the IBU Cup in Martell . Hettich then spent the 2016/17 season in the IBU Junior Cup , where she finished her first race in second place. In the further course she could not build on this result and was 22nd in the overall ranking. When she took part in the Junior World Championships in Osrblie , however, she was sixth in the individual.
In 2017 Janina Hettich switched to the senior division and regularly took part in the IBU Cup . There she had mixed success and reached 16th place in the overall standings. For the 2018/19 season she was able to improve her performance, regularly reaching the top 10 and in the sprint in Lenzerheide with third place for the first time the podium. At the European Championships in Minsk, she was fifth in the individual and won the silver medal with the German mixed relay. Overall, Hettich finished the season in fourth place in the overall IBU Cup, qualifying for the World Cup final in Oslo . There she was 44th in the sprint and was able to improve to 32nd in the pursuit.
In summer 2019 Janina Hettich was accepted for the first time in the performance group Ia of the German Ski Association , trained by Kristian Mehringer and Florian Steirer . She started the 2019/20 season again in the IBU Cup , but already advanced to the World Cup in Le Grand-Bornand in December , where she was among the top 30 in sprint and pursuit for the first time. In January she was also in Oberhof for the first time Part of the German season that reached number four.
