Janine Urbannek (born March 5, 1988 in Leipzig ) is a former German handball player .
The 1.83 meter tall cyclist began her career in Leipzig at TuS Mockau. In 2001 she moved to HC Leipzig , played through the youth teams and finally made her Bundesliga debut in 2006. From the Leipzig perspective squad Urbannke was awarded the second game right in 2007 to SV Union Halle-Neustadt in the 2nd Handball Bundesliga North . After two years, Urbannek moved back to the first division for the 2009/10 season at HSG Blomberg-Lippe . In the 2010/11 season she played for the Frankfurt Handball Club , but was injured early in the season. For the 2011/12 season she moved to league rivals SG Kickers / Sindelfingen , who withdrew his team due to bankruptcy before the start of the season. Urbannek then ended her career because of persistent knee problems.
Urbannek went through all German national U-teams. Urbannek took part in the U19 European Championship 2007 (9th place) with the juniors. In 2008 Urbannek won the gold medal at the 2008 U-20 World Cup in North Macedonia. Although she was appointed to the extended DHB squad for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, she made her senior national team debut on September 24, 2009 in the game against Norway in Arhus at the World Cup . For the women's handball world championship in China in 2009 , Urbannek was again in the extended squad.
