Jaume Pujol Balcells (born February 8, 1944 in Guissona ) is a Spanish clergyman, emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Tarragona and Primate of Spain .

Life

Jaume Pujol Balcells joined Opus Dei and the Archbishop of Madrid , Cardinal Vicente Enrique y Tarancón , ordained him on August 5, 1973 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Tarragona on June 15, 2004. He received his episcopal consecration from the Apostolic Nuncio in Spain and Andorra , Archbishop Manuel Monteiro de Castro , on September 19 of the same year; Co- consecrators were Lluís Martínez Sistach , Archbishop of Barcelona , and Javier Echevarría , prelate of the personal prelature Opus Dei. As a motto he chose Quæ audisti doce .

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on May 4, 2019.
