Joan Planellas i Barnosell (born November 7, 1955 in Girona , Spain ) is a Spanish clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Tarragona .

Life

Joan Planellas i Barnosell studied at the seminary in Girona and graduated in 1981 with a degree in theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University . On March 28, 1982 he received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Girona .

In addition to various tasks in pastoral care and after working as a military chaplain during his military service from 1983 to 1984, he was since 1985 professor of theology at the seminary in Girona. From 1988 until his appointment as bishop he taught at the Institute for Religious Studies, which he also headed until 1998. From 1996 to 2002 he was also the rain of the seminar in Girona. In 2004 he was awarded a Dr. theol. PhD . In 2008 he was appointed Cathedral Chapter of the Girona Cathedral Chapter . Since 2010 he has been Professor of Systematic Theology and Vice Dean at the Theological Faculty of Catalonia, of which he has been Dean since 2015.

Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Tarragona on May 4, 2019 . The Archbishop of Barcelona , Juan José Cardinal Omella Omella , donated him episcopal ordination on June 8 of the same year . Co- consecrators were the Apostolic Nuncio in Spain, Archbishop Renzo Fratini , his predecessor Jaume Pujol Balcells and the Bishop of Girona, Francesc Pardo i Artigas .
