Javier Zeoli , full name Adolfo Javier Zeoli Martínez (born May 2, 1962 in Montevideo ) is a former Uruguayan football player .

The 1.80 meter tall Zeoli, who played in the position of goalkeeper , belonged to the squad of the Montevidean club Danubio from 1982 to 1989 . While he was a member of the club, the club first won the Copa de Oro in 1982 and was runner-up in Uruguay the following year. The triumph in the Liguilla is also recorded in the success statistics for that year. In 1988 he won the Torneo Competencia and then the Uruguayan national championship title, to which he contributed with twelve and 20 season appearances, after he took over the position of the goalkeeper that year and became one of the pillars of the team. In the Torneo Competencia he was also the goalkeeper with the fewest goals. He was defeated only eight times. With Danubio he also took part in the Copa Libertadores in 1984 and 1989 . In the last participation, his team advanced to the semi-finals. He also played the Torneo Conmebol twice .

In 1989 he left Uruguay for Spain. There he joined the CD Tenerife in the Canaries . 1990 in the Apertura, according to other information in 1991, followed a station at Deportivo Mandiyú in Argentina. In the following two years he was then under contract with the Argentine club Atlético Talleres . From 1993 to 1994 he played for River Plate in Buenos Aires . There he also took part in the Copa Libertadores in 1993 . Other sources see him in turn 1992 to 1993 at River Plate and lead twelve top division games for him during this period. Bolívar was his next club in 1994. For this club, a different contract period is 1991. In 1995 he was in the ranks of the Uruguayan series champions Nacional . Via Palestino in 1996, his path led back to Danubio in 1997, where Zeoli finally ended his career at its starting point.

National team

Zeoli was South American champion in 1981 with the Uruguayan junior national team . During the tournament he was used by coach Aníbal Gutiérrez Ponce seven times. Also at the junior soccer world championship in 1981 he was nominated for Uruguay's junior national team, but not used. Zeoli was later also a member of the Uruguayan senior team . He made his debut in the Celeste on September 27, 1988. His 14th and last international match he completed on May 18, 1990. During this time he took part with the Celeste in the Copa America 1989 , which finished Uruguay in second place. Zeoli's career highlight in the national team was his participation in the World Cup in 1990 , in which, however, he could not show any use, as regular goalkeeper Fernando Álvez played all games.
