Jay Michael Leggett (born August 9, 1963 in Tomahawk , Lincoln County , Wisconsin , † November 23, 2013 in Lincoln County, Wisconsin) was an American comedian , actor , improviser , director , screenwriter and film producer .

life and career

Leggett was born and raised in Tomahawk , Lincoln County , Wisconsin . After graduating from Tomahawk High School, he began studying at the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point , where he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. He studied improvisation under Del Close in Chicago , Illinois , before moving to Hollywood to appear in the FOX - sketch comedy In Living Color from 1993 onwards . Leggett appeared in a variety of secondary and small roles in dozens of US TV shows, including 1,994 in the two-hour pilot The first day (Original: 23 hours ) as Mr. Canelli to the NBC - hospital drama ER - ER .

Jay Leggett wrote the script and produced You're Fired! (Original: Employee of the Month ), in which he played as Dorff at the side of Matt Dillon , Christina Applegate and Steve Zahn himself. You're Fired! made it into the official selection of the Sundance Film Festival . The screenplay for 2004 by Paramount Pictures produced adventure comedy Without a Paddle (Original: Without A Paddle ) with Dax Shepard and Seth Green in the lead roles , wrote Leggett together with Mitch Rouse .

Leggett re-appeared as producer and performer alongside David Pasquesi ( Smitty ), Mitch Rouse ( Gary ) and Michael Coleman ( Chase ) at the Comedy Factory as Gus in 2008.

In 2010, the documentary To The Hunt was released, which describes the hunt and various forms of foraging and the hunting community in Lincoln County, Wisconsin. Jay Leggett co- directed and produced the film with Charles Ketchabaw .

Jay Leggett died of a heart attack on November 23, 2013, at the age of 50 after spending the day hunting near his home township of Tomahawk in Lincoln County, Wisconsin. Leggett is the only actor on In Living Color to pass away.
