Jayne Casselman
Jayne Casselman (born December 8, 1955 in Kansas City , † February 3, 2016 in Phoenix ) was an American opera singer ( soprano ).
Life
Casselman was born the daughter of a church choir conductor . The singer graduated from the University of Kansas as a mezzo-soprano and devoted herself to vocal training with the music teacher Inci Bashar.
In 1984 she started teaching at a musical school in Hamburg and in the same year began her career as a singer in Germany at the Pfalztheater in Kaiserslautern . She belonged to the ensemble of this house until 1993. Engagements have taken her to numerous European opera houses as well as Philadelphia and Mexico City .
Since switching to the soprano, Casselman has mainly taken on roles in the dramatic repertoire, specializing in Wagner and Strauss . The title role in Elektra was just as much a part of her repertoire as Isolde in Tristan und Isolde or Brünnhilde in the Ring of the Nibelung . In the mezzo-soprano section, Casselman appeared as Kundry in Parsifal and Venus in Tannhauser and the singer's war in Wartburg .
The artist lived in Germany, also devoted herself to the further training of young artists and set up the Huthmacher cultural center in Dierbach for this purpose . When Casselman fell ill with ALS and the disease increasingly restricted her, she returned to her homeland, where she died in February 2016 at the age of 55 as a result of the consequences of the disease.
