Jean-Charles Marie Descubes
Jean-Charles Marie Descubes (born February 7, 1940 in Tonnay-Charente ) is a Roman Catholic clergyman and emeritus Archbishop of Rouen and Catholic primate of Normandy .
Life
He was born the son of the lawyer Robert Descubes and his wife Marie Demeunynck, conservator in the naval archives. After studying theology in Angers and Paris, Jean-Charles Marie Descubes was ordained a priest on July 3, 1965 and then worked as a pastor in La Rochelle until 1980 . From 1973 to 1989 he was responsible for the formation of priests and the theological training of lay people in the diocese of La Rochelle , and from 1983 to 1989 he was also secretary of the French national office for priestly formation. In 1989 he became vicar general in the diocese of La Rochelle et Saintes, which he remained until his appointment as bishop .
Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Agen on December 13, 1996 . The Archbishop of Bordeaux , Pierre Étienne Louis Cardinal Eyt , donated him episcopal ordination on March 9 of the following year ; Co- consecrators were Jacques David , Bishop of Évreux , and Sabin-Marie Saint-Gaudens , Former Bishop of Agen. His motto is In libertatem vocati .
Pope John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Rouen on March 25, 2004 .
On July 10, 2015, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation.
