Jean-Georges Klein

Jean-Georges Klein (born October 27, 1950 in Ingwiller ) is a French chef.

Life

Klein grew up in an Alsatian family of restaurateurs. From 1967 he studied at the Strasbourg hotel management school Lycée hôtelier de Strasbourg , where he graduated in 1969 with the Brevet de technicien en hôtellerie (BTH).

From 1970 to 1987 he was head waiter in his mother's restaurant, the L'Arnsbourg in Baerenthal in Lorraine , where his sister Cathy Klein also worked. After inheriting the restaurant in 1987, he switched to the kitchen, where he was awarded a Michelin star a year later . In 1998 the second star was added. The autodidact Klein continued his education with Pierre Gagnaire and in 1999 with Ferran Adrià at elbulli .

From 2002, Klein was awarded three Michelin stars . In 2008 Gault Millau voted Klein “the best French chef of the year” and in 2012 gave him 18 out of 20 points. At the beginning of 2015, Jean-Georges Klein left his restaurant L'Arnsbourg ; the hotel was initially continued by his sister Cathy Klein.

In September 2015 he opened the Villa René Lalique restaurant in Wingen-sur-Moder in Alsace, 20 kilometers from Baerenthal . It is located in the former Villa René Lalique , which he lived in until 1945. The Villa René Lalique restaurant has been awarded two Michelin stars since 2016 . In the fall of 2017, Paul Stradner , with whom Klein had worked five years earlier, became head chef with equal rights.
