Jean-Guy Hamelin

Jean-Guy Hamelin (born October 8, 1925 in Saint-Sévérin-de-Proulxville , † March 1, 2018 ) was a Canadian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Rouyn-Noranda .

Life

Jean-Guy Hamelin was ordained a priest for the diocese of Trois Rivières on June 11, 1949 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on November 29, 1973 first bishop of the newly established Diocese of Rouyn-Noranda. The Archbishop of Québec , Maurice Cardinal Roy , donated him episcopal ordination on February 9 of the next year ; Co- consecrators were Gaston Hains , Bishop of Amos , and Jacques Landriault , Bishop of Timmins .

From 1993 to 1995 he was chairman of the Canadian Bishops' Conference .

On November 30, 2001, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
