Jean-Pierre-Christine Willmar (born November 29, 1790 in Luxembourg , † January 28, 1858 in The Hague ) was a Belgian diplomat and politician .

Life

Jean-Pierre-Christine Willmar was the son of Marie-Catherine Gras and J.-G.-O.-M.-V.-Z Wilmar, a former Member of Parliament in France, and a brother of Jean-Jacques Willmar . From September 28, 1809 to October 1, 1811 Willmar studied at the École polytechnique . On February 12, 1813 he was made lieutenant . On October 19, 1813, he became a prisoner of war at the Battle of Leipzig .

During the campaign in Saxony in 1813 and during the campaign in France in 1815, he was on the general staff of Dominique Joseph Vandamme . On September 30, 1817 he was given a command of pioneers and on August 4, 1825 he was deputy commanding officer in Liège .

With the Belgian Revolution he became Belgian. On February 14, 1831, he was given the task of leading the pioneers. From September 10, 1831 to June 10, 1834 he was Inspector General of the Pioneers. On June 10, 1834, he was appointed manager of the fortifications. He was charged with negotiating customs tariffs in accordance with the treaty of May 21, 1833 with France in Paris. On August 19, 1836, he replaced Louis Evain as Minister of War , an office he held until April 18, 1840. On April 20, 1840, Leopold I appointed him to his general staff. On April 24, 1840 Willmar was appointed envoy extraordinary and ministre plénipotentiaire at the court of Friedrich Wilhelm III. in Berlin . In 1845 he was sent to Wilhelm II in the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the same office . He was promoted to lieutenant general on July 8, 1847, and retired on December 18, 1851 .
