Jean Damascène Bimenyimana

Jean Damascène Bimenyimana (born June 22, 1953 in Shangi , Rwanda ; † March 11, 2018 at Kanombe Airport , Kigali ) was a Rwandan clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Cyangugu .

Life

Jean Damascène Bimenyimana received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Nyundo on July 6, 1980 .

On January 2, 1997, Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Cyangugu. The retired bishop of Nyundo, Wenceslas Kalibushi , donated him episcopal ordination on March 16 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the bishop emeritus of Butare , Frédéric Rubwejanga , and the archbishop of Kigali , Thaddée Ntihinyurwa .

Bishop Bimenyimana stayed several times in Austria and Germany. In his diocese, after the experience of the genocide in his country in 1994 and under the impression of a trip to Medjugorje, he set up a Marian prayer center in honor of the Queen of Peace .

Bimenyimana last suffered from cancer . After a final treatment in Nairobi , he was released on March 11, 2018 and flown to Kigali , where he died shortly after arrival.
