Jean Cardinal Zerbo (born December 27, 1943 in Ségou , Mali ) is Archbishop of Bamako .

Life

Jean Zerbo received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Ségou on July 10, 1971 through the Bishop of Ségou, Pierre Louis Leclerc MAfr .

On 21 June 1988 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the titular of Accia and ordered him to auxiliary bishop in Bamako. The Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples , Cardinal Jozef Tomko , ordained him episcopal on November 20th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Bamako, Luc Auguste Sangaré , and the Bishop Emeritus of San , Joseph Paul Barnabé Perrot MAfr. On December 19, 1994, John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Mopti . He was appointed Archbishop of Bamako on June 27, 1998.

In the consistory of June 28, 2017, Pope Francis accepted him as a cardinal priest with the titular church of Sant'Antonio da Padova in Via Tuscolana in the college of cardinals . The takeover of his titular church took place on November 12 of the same year.

On October 4, 2017, Pope Francis appointed him a member of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples . On December 23, 2017, the Pope appointed him a member of the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life .
