Jeff Lemire (born March 21, 1976 in Canada ) is a Canadian comic book writer and author of the Essex County Trilogy , Sweet Tooth , The Nobody and The Underwater Welder . Lemire is known for his moody, humanistic stories and sketchy, cinematic black and white drawing style.

biography

Lemire was born and raised on a small farm in Essex County, Ontario , near Lake Erie . He attended film school, but then decided to take up comics when he realized that filmmaking didn't go as well with his solitary personality.

After he published the Xeric Award-winning comic Lost Dogs on his own initiative in 2005 , he was signed by Top Shelf Productions. The Essex County Trilogy , which appeared between 2008 and 2009, was his first work for Top Shelf and received an Eisner Award and a Harvey Award nomination.

Lemire published a science fiction comic strip under the name Fortress in the quarterly UR Magazine .

In 2009 DC Comics Vertigo released the comic The Nobody , a two-tone story about identity, fear and paranoia in a small place. Lemire currently writes and draws the monthly, color comic series Sweet Tooth , also for Vertigo. He also wrote the One Shot Brightest Day: Atom with Turkish artist Mahmud Asrar for the DC Universe , which is said to be the springboard for a future new Atom story by Adventure Comics . He also introduced the Superboy series with the main character Conner Kent.

In early June 2011 it was announced that the comic Tales from the Farm will be filmed by John Dykstra under the title Super Zero , with John Carr to write the script and Steven Gilder and Alex Chorches to act as producers.

In August 2012, his third book The Underwater Welder was published , which was nominated for two Harvey Awards.

With the first issue of Trillium , Lemire's current eight-part comic series was published by Vertigo in August 2013.

Jeff Lemire lives in Toronto , Canada with his wife and son .
