Jeff Lorber
Jeff Lorber (born November 4, 1952 in Philadelphia ) is an American keyboard player of fusion - and especially smooth jazz .
Live and act
Lorber had piano lessons since he was four. In his school days he played soul and rhythm and blues . He first studied chemistry in Boston before starting parallel studies at Berklee College of Music in 1970/71 , where he was taught by Margaret Chaloff , Dave Amram and Ran Blake . He continued his chemistry studies in Oregon , where he worked as a jazz lecturer at Clark College from 1973. With bass player Danny Wilson and drummer Dennis Bradford he founded his own group, with which he presented his debut album in 1977; in the following years he worked with guest soloists such as Joe Farrell , Chick Corea and Freddie Hubbard . 1983 moved Lorber to Los Angeles , where he worked as a studio musician, producer and talent scout for Herb Alpert , the Pointer Sisters or Kenny G. worked. In addition, he presented his own albums with changing line-ups, which have been nominated for a Grammy several times . As a guest musician he has been involved in recordings by Eric Marienthal , Gary Meek , U2 , Art Porter junior , Manhattan Transfer , Duran Duran , Bruce Hornsby and Curtis Mayfield .
In 2018, his Jeff Lorber Fusion for the album Prototype received a Grammy Award in the category “Best Contemporary Instrumental Album”.
