Jekaterina Valerjewna Gnidenko ( Russian Екатерина Валерьевна Гниденко ; English transcription Ekaterina Gnidenko ; born  December 11, 1992 in Tula ) is a Russian cyclist who is mainly active on the track .

Athletic career

In 2009, Jekaterina Gnidenko was third in the team sprint at the Junior Track Championships in Moscow , together with Olga Hudenko . In 2010, she was in St. Petersburg two-time European champion in the team sprint and sprint and third in the European Championships in the 500-meter time trial . In the same year, she and Anastassija Woinowa set a new junior world record over 500 meters in a team sprint in Montichiari with 35.029 seconds. In 2011 she won the Alexander Lesnikow Memorial in a team sprint together with Jelena Breschniwa ; in the keirin and in the sprint, she took second place. In the sprint and team sprint, she was Russian vice-champion and third in the junior European championships in Keirin.

At the UCI Track World Championships 2012 in Melbourne , Jekaterina Gnidenko won the silver medal in the Keirin. In the 2015 UEC European Track Championships in Switzerland Grenchen she was third in the Keirin.

Doping ban 2016

In June 2016 it became known that Gnidenko had been temporarily suspended by the World Cycling Federation UCI because of a positive anabolic steroids analysis at the 2012 Olympic Games in London . Although she did not make it into the medal ranks, she could lose her silver medal in the Keirin , which she won after the games at the UEC European Track Championships in 2012 . A little later, the B sample was also positive. In the subsequent tests for the 2012 Games, a total of 32 athletes were noticed, Gnidenko was the only case in cycling. In June 2018, the UCI , the World Cycling Federation, allowed her to take part in competitions again, as in the event of a ban, it has now expired. In July 2018, Gnidenko's appeal against her suspension was dismissed by the International Court of Justice for Sports (CAS).

A few weeks after it was approved by the UCI, Gnidenko competed at the Russian track championships and finished third in the sprint and second in the team sprint.
