Yekatherina Lebedeva

Jekatherina Lebedewa ( Russian Екатерина Лебедева ; * 1961 in Leningrad ) is a German linguist and translation scholar and literary translator . Since 2004 she has been professor for Russian translation studies at the Institute for Translation and Interpreting (IÜD) at the New Philology Faculty of the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg .

Life

Jekatherina Lebedewa studied translation and literature ( Russian / Romanian / English ) at the Humboldt University of Berlin from 1980 to 1985 . In 1985 she received the Humboldt Prize for her thesis on the modern Russian novel and its sources in 19th century Russian classical music . After graduating, she worked from 1985 to 1991 as a research assistant in the research group for modern Russian literature at the Central Institute for the History of Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR in Berlin and taught as a visiting professor at the Institute for Slavic Studies at the Humboldt University in Berlin. She received her PhD in 1990 as a Dr. phil. with the dissertation "Russian guitar lyric - the genesis of a modern literary genre". In 1992, her dissertation was entitled “Come on guitar, make me free! Russian Guitar Poetry in Opposition ”published as a book. In the same year she received a postdoctoral fellowship from the Max Planck Society with a focus on literary research in Berlin. From 1993 to 1996 she worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Slavonic Studies at Humboldt University and in 1997 as a research assistant for Russian cultural history in the cultural studies department of the Magnus Hirschfeld Archive in Berlin. From 1997 to 2001 she benefited from a habilitation grant from the Volkswagen Foundation . In 2002, she completed her habilitation in the subject “Slavic Literature and Cultural Studies”. Her habilitation thesis entitled “Philosophical Poetry and Poetic Philosophy. Slavophilism in 19th century Russia as a poetic phenomenon ”she wrote at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder) . She then taught there as a private lecturer at the Faculty of Cultural Studies . Since 2004 she has held the professorship for Russian translation studies at the New Philology Faculty of the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg .

Jekatherina Lebedewa takes on the role of reviewer and editor, translates plays, prose and poetry from Russian and is represented at various events in Germany and abroad on topics of translation studies with academic lectures. For example, she represents the IÜD at the annual general meetings of the CIUTI .
