biography

education and profession

During his training as a guitarist, Kommnick oriented himself towards the singer-songwriter and folk guitarist scene. At the age of 15 he had his first solo appearances in German folk clubs . He also received engagements at the Stadttheater Bremerhaven , where he was employed for four years. At the age of 17 he came into contact with Irish and Scottish musicians, which sparked his fondness for Celtic music.

At the same time as his fascination for Celtic music grew, he studied classical guitar and organ at the University of Cologne . The friendship with musicians from the Cologne jazz scene resulted in live and studio projects.

Kommnick works as a special school teacher in Cuxhaven and lives in Wremen . He is married to the Irish folk singer Siobhán Kennedy.

Artistic activity

For the most part, Kommnick plays Irish music, both traditional and mixed with stylistic elements from other genres. He is also involved in the acoustic singer-songwriter scene and worked with Peter Kerlin , Helmut Debus , Allan Taylor , Birgit June, Paul Joses, Reinhard Mey and Frank Bode. He plays together with his wife and Nick Wiseman-Ellis (former member: Angelika Berns) in the Trio Iontach. Again and again this trio appears together with the trio Liederjan as Liedertach.

He also does children's concerts and collaborates with the Lila Lindwurm project ( Mönchengladbach ). He also works as a guitar teacher and mainly teaches Irish guitar ( backing , fingerstyle , open tunings ). In 2011 Jens Kommnick performed songs on a summer evening together with Reinhard Mey .
