Mairegen is the 25th German studio album by German songwriter Reinhard Mey and was released on May 7, 2010 by EMI .

content

The album contains soulful and calm songs that tell of everyday life ( Antje and The First Time ) and stories from Mey's childhood ( Gute Seele , Rotten Radish Skiffle Guys and Das Butterbrot ).

Mey also criticizes casting shows like Deutschland sucht den Superstar in Larissa's dream .

In the songs Drachenblut and Ficus Benjamini he sings about his son Maximilian, who has fallen into a coma . In this song he ties in with his earlier work You are a giant, Max! by picking up the images used there. In his song Jump on the bare stone, the singer-songwriter draws an arc from childhood memories of his sick son. Some songs also tell of hope, like the songs May Rain and Against the Wind . Reinhard Mey wrote the song We are one for his wife Hella and the topic of aviation finds its place in the song Nachtflug , which he dedicated to his eldest son Frederik.

With Konstantin Wecker he sings the song Was keine dares as a bonus track . It comes from Wecker's album encores .

According to the booklet, Reinhard Mey was inspired by the poem Mairegen makes you grow taller for the song Mairegen by August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben .

History of origin

Mey wrote most of the songs during the period when his son was in a vegetative state. This stroke of fate explains why the songs have a very personal relationship and make you think.

reception

Artur Schulz wrote on Laut.de that “absolutely exceptional tracks” could not be found on Mairegen . But the pieces are provided with his “very own, unmistakable handwriting and audio script”. The editors awarded three out of five stars. The Mitteldeutsche Zeitung called Mairegen “perhaps the most moving music album of this spring”, but musically it “remained largely on the rather well-worn 'Mey paths'”.
