The house at the traffic lights -

Das Haus an der Ampel is the 28th studio album by German songwriter Reinhard Mey . It was published by Universal Music GmbH in 2020 . It contains 16 songs, including 15 new pieces written and composed by Reinhard Mey himself, as well as Scarlet Ribbons with his daughter Victoria-Luise. The album consists of two CDs, one with only guitar accompaniment and one with an ensemble.

content

The album largely focuses on episodes from Mey's family: The house at the traffic light is Mey's parents' house. We have given every child a house for their children, but for their deceased son "only with a canopy of leaves". Other topics are his writing ( To my pencil ) and his first successes ( In Vienna ). Everyday knowledge can be found in the songs People who eat ice cream or I love being around people . Euthanasia is discussed in Gerhard and Frank . The last song, Scarlet Ribbons , was written by Evelyn Danzig and Jack Segal and was sung by Harry Belafonte , Roy Orbison and the Kingston Trio , among others . Mey sings it in English with his daughter.

production

The album produced by Manfred Leuchter was published by Edition Reinhard Mey Berlin. Leuchter (Musentempel Aachen) also took over the music recordings, the arrangements, mix and mastering. Jörg Surrey (Teldex Berlin) performed the vocal recordings. The design of the album comes from “DDT2w. Dusan Totovic ”.

The album was originally due to be released on May 8, 2020. Due to delivery bottlenecks as a result of the corona pandemic , the release date had to be postponed to May 29th. As compensation for his fans, he recorded a nearly quarter-hour concert in his garden, which he published on YouTube. It contains the songs I'll bring you through the night (2000), My Apple Tree (1985) and A quarter to seven (1998). His daughter Victoria took care of the picture and sound.

Reviews

The news channel n-tv believes that “the new pieces also often sound like they have been heard a thousand times, both thematically and compositionally”; the album only makes you sit up and take notice "where Mey leaves his endless loop of banalities".

The Nürnberger Nachrichten , on the other hand, describes the new album as an "event". It goes on to say: "Mey's curiosity about life and the poetry of dialogue seem unbroken in it".
