Jens Seipenbusch (born August 6, 1968 in Wuppertal ) is the former federal chairman of the Pirate Party Germany .

Life

education and profession

Seipenbusch studied physics at the University of Bochum and at the University of Münster , where he is the deputy head of the information processing supply unit (IVV) of the law faculty. In the faculty he is a member of the IT commission and the IT security team of the university.

Political career

Seipenbusch worked on the party program of the Pirate Party and was Deputy Chairman from September 2006 to May 2007, after which he was Chairman from May 2007 to May 2008 and again Deputy Chairman of the party until July 2009. At the federal party conference on July 4, 2009 in Hamburg, Seipenbusch was again elected federal chairman with 56 percent of the vote. At the 2010 federal party conference in Bingen am Rhein , he was confirmed in office with 52.6 percent. At the 2011 party conference, he did not run again. Sebastian Nerz was elected as his successor .

At the beginning of 2012, Jens Seipenbusch and his former deputy Andreas Popp founded “Gruppe 42”, a loose association of 42 like-minded people outside the party. The group wants to pay more attention and commitment to the core issues of network, copyright and data protection, which the party is neglecting in its opinion. In addition, as a competence center for digital topics, one wants to be able to react quickly to questions.

Seipenbusch ran for fourth place on the state list of the Pirate Party of North Rhine-Westphalia for the 2013 federal election .

Private

Seipenbusch lives in Münster and is married.
