Patrick Marie Roger Schiffer (born January 29, 1973 in Eupen , Belgium ) is a German politician . From 2013 to 2016 he was chairman of the Pirate Party of North Rhine-Westphalia and from August 2016 to October 2017 chairman of the Pirate Party Germany . At the beginning of 2018 he switched to Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen .

Life

education and profession

Schiffer spent five years of his childhood in Alexandria , Egypt . In 1992 he did his Abitur in Aachen . After doing community service, he studied civil engineering at RWTH Aachen University . After completing his intermediate diploma in civil engineering, he went to the Netherlands and studied screen design at the Academie Beeldende Kunsten in Maastricht with a focus on web design, video and typography. Schiffer works as a designer and works for a digital agency in Düsseldorf .

Political career

Schiffer used to be active in the Green Youth and was close to the Socialist Alternative . In March 2012 he joined the Pirate Party.

On April 27, 2013 he was elected chairman of the Pirate Party of North Rhine-Westphalia at the state party conference in Bottrop . Schiffer prevailed against four competitors, including Michele Marsching , who received only two votes less than Schiffer. For the 2013 federal election he also ran in constituency 107 - Düsseldorf II as a direct candidate and as a list candidate in 13th place on the state list. At the state party conference in Kleve, he was re-elected as chairman on August 30, 2014, making him the first chairman of the North Rhine-Westphalia state association of the Pirate Party to remain in office for more than one term.

On July 5, 2015, he was elected Vice-Chairman of Pirate Parties International (PPI) in Warsaw .

On August 27, 2016, Schiffer was elected federal chairman of the Pirate Party Germany at the federal party conference in Wolfenbüttel . At the same time, he resigned from his position as chairman of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Schiffer ran for a direct mandate in the North Rhine-Westphalian state elections in 2017 in the Düsseldorf II constituency . He did not run on the state list. In the 2017 federal election , he is running for first place on the NRW state list.

At the federal party conference, which will take place in Regensburg from October 21 to October 22, he will not run again for the election of federal chairman. At the end of 2017, he left the Pirate Party and shortly afterwards joined Alliance 90 / The Greens .

On June 16, 2018, the state party convention of the NRW Grünen Schiffer gave a vote for the list places from 20 in the European election list at the upcoming federal party convention of the Greens. He got 52.74% of the vote. In the end, however, Schiffer did not stand for the list of the Greens for the European elections in Germany in 2019 .

On November 19, 2019, Schiffer was unanimously elected spokesman for the Flingern / Düsseltal district group of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen Düsseldorf.

Personal

Schiffer has a daughter and lives in Düsseldorf - Flingern . The model Claudia Schiffer is his cousin.
