Jeremy Christie (born May 22, 1983 in Whangarei ) is a New Zealand football player . The midfielder plays for the New Zealand national team .

Club career

Christie was signed together with his compatriot David Mulligan from the English club FC Barnsley in 2000 and made his competitive debut for the club in the FA Cup on January 16, 2002 . After another use in the league, Christie returned to New Zealand and played with the Football Kingz in the Australian National Soccer League until 2004 . After the NSL was discontinued in 2004, he played for Onehunga Sports and then for Waitakere United before returning to the Kingz in 2005, who have since been renamed the New Zealand Knights, and played in the newly founded professional league A-League . After a disastrous season (6 points from 21 games) Christie moved to league rivals Perth Glory . Another year later he joined the newly formed A-League club Wellington Phoenix . After his contract expired in 2009, he did not receive a new offer from Phoenix.

He then played six league games for Waitakere United around the turn of 2009/2010 before moving to the US for the newly formed Tampa Bay Rowdies team , which has its game operations in the USSF D2 Pro League .

National team

Christie played for the U17 , U20 and U23 selection of the New Zealand Association. With the U17 he took part in 1999 as a team captain in the U17 World Cup in his own country.

In 2005 he made his debut against Australia in the New Zealand senior team . In 2009 he took part with the New Zealand selection in the Confederations Cup in South Africa. A year later also at the 2010 World Cup , which also took place in South Africa. In the first group game, in the 1-1 draw against Slovakia , he was substituted on for Ivan Vicelich in the 78th minute . In the second group game, in the 1-1 draw against Italy , he was also substituted on: In the 81st minute he came back for Ivan Vicelich. In the third and final group game, in the 0-0 draw against Paraguay , he was not used. In the end, he retired with New Zealand with three points and no defeat after the group stage.
