Career

society

Jerry Dawson, who was born in Falkirk , began his career with the Camelon Juniors in the district of the same name . He got his nickname Jerry from the English goalkeeper Jeremiah "Jerry" Dawson who had played over 500 competitive games at Burnley FC . In November 1929, Dawson signed a contract with the Glasgow Rangers . There he stayed under contract for the next 16 years and won the Scottish Championship seven times and the Cup three times with the team . After the Second World War he worked for FC Falkirk for four years .

After a brief stint as a journalist with the Daily Record , he was appointed East Fife FC coach in July 1953 . He led the club to victory in the league cup in his first year . In July 1958, he left the team after it had to accept relegation to the second division.

After his death in 1977, Dawson was posthumously elected to the Rangers Hall of Fame . Dawson earned the nickname "The Prince in the Yellow Shirt" because the Rangers traditionally wore a yellow goalkeeper jersey.

National team

As a regular goalkeeper of the Glasgow Rangers Dawson made his debut on October 20, 1934 in the Scottish national team in the international match against Northern Ireland in Windsor Park in Belfast.
