Jerzy Nowak
Jerzy Nowak (born June 20, 1923 in Brzesko ; † March 26, 2013 in Warsaw ) was a Polish film and theater actor and teacher.
biography
During the German occupation of Poland , Nowak fought together with the Polish partisans. In 1948 he graduated from the Ludwik Solski Academy for Performing Arts in Krakow . From 1994 he played primarily and continuously the role of Hirsz Singer , who is considered a historical symbol for the legacy of Polish theater in professional circles. The role appears in the play Ja jestem Żyd z Wesela by Roman Brandstaetter , which was performed in October 2011 for the 600th time. In the cinema he mostly took on supporting roles as a Jew, often during the Second World War, for example in Schindler's List (director: Steven Spielberg ) or as a farmer in Three Colors: White and as Sugar in the film The Promised Land (director: Andrzej Wajda ). In 2005 he made a film on the subject of death, allegedly based on his own illness as a role model. According to his will, his body was to be made available to the Collegium Medicum of the Jagiellonian University . The film generated a lot of media interest.
Jerzy Nowak was married to Maria Andruszkiewicz-Nowak for the second time since 1989. In autumn 2009 the Austeria Verlag published the biography of Jerzy Nowak, Książka o miłości . It was created in collaboration with his wife, who was awarded the Krakow Book of the Month literary prize for it in February 2010 .
