Jesús E. Rodríguez Garzón
Jesús Eugenio Rodríguez Garzón (born June 13, 1967 or June 30, 1967 ) is a former Cuban wrestler . He was runner-up in the world championship in 1994 and an Olympic participant in 1992, both in free style in the lightweight.
Career
Jesus E. Rodriguez Garzon began wrestling as a teenager in 1981 in Santiago de Cuba . He made good progress with coach Eric Leon, but it was only after he was 20 years old that he developed into one of the best Cuban lightweight freestyle wrestlers and was therefore unable to earn any international merits as a junior.
He made his debut at an international wrestling event of world renown at the World Cup in Toledo in 1989 . He had to be content there in the lightweight but still behind Arsen Fadsajew from the Soviet Union , Nate Carr from the United States and Chris Wilson from Canada with 4th place. In the same year he was then Pan American lightweight champion in Colorado Springs before Gordon Sturruck from Canada and John Giura from the United States.
In 1990 he was also the Central American Champion ahead of Abel Martinez from Nicaragua a . Eduard S. Quintero from Colombia . He was unable to defend his title as Pan-American Champion in Colorado Springs in 1990, because he was defeated on points by Randy Lewis from the United States in the final. For this he celebrated a great success at the 1990 World Cup in Tokyo , because he won a bronze medal at his first participation in a world championship behind Arsen Fadsajew and Giorgios Athanasiadis from Greece .
At the Pan American Games in Havana in 1991, things did not go well for Jesus E. Rodriguez Garzon, because he finished there in the lightweight behind Townsend Saunders from the United States, Daniel A. Navarete from Argentina a . Jose Alberto Diaz from Venezuela only took 4th place and was then not used at the 1991 World Cup.
In 1992 he fought his way back to his top position among the Cuban lightweights in the free style but back and finished 2nd at the Pan American Championships behind Townsend Saunders . But he experienced a low point in his career at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona . There he lost both fights that he had to contest against Maxim Geller from Israel and Kōsei Akaishi from Japan . He was then, according to the rules of that time, together with all wrestlers who had to retire after the second round with two defeats, placed on the 11th place.
In 1993 he only went to the Central American a. Caribbean games in Ponce and won there in the lightweight before Eloy Urvano from Mexico a . Angelo Alberto Brea from the Dominican Republic. In 1994 Jesus E. Rodriguez Garzon concentrated entirely on the World Championships in Istanbul . He fought his way up to the final, in which he was shouldered by Alexander Leipold from Germany . He was behind this runner-up world champion . That was the greatest achievement of his wrestling career.
After a 3rd place at the Pan American Games 1995 in Mar del Plata in the lightweight behind Townsend Saunders u. Craig Roberts from Canada , he finished 3rd behind Araik Geworgjan from Armenia and Akbar Fallah from Iran at the World Championships in Atlanta this year and won another bronze medal.
After this world championship he ended his international wrestling career due to injuries to a thumb and spine. Since then he has been the coach of the women's national team.
