plant

The oeuvre of the artist Jiří Straka is primarily characterized by the combination of the traditional technique of Chinese ink painting on the one hand and the directness of the motifs on the other. The artist's large-format works show objects, animals and plants . The colors are limited to the white of the paper , the black of the ink , the shades of gray that result from thinning the ink with water and partial red accents. The extremely oversized motifs - one for each work - are no longer anchored on the paper and there are no narrative elements. Everything is focused on the motifs . Motifs that are only aestheticized through the painting process. These are, for example, pig hearts, which, thanks to the technology, look like lovely flowers . A special feature of Jiří Straka is the fact that he works right in front of the object. From this context there is also the possibility to watch him at work, because he lists his painting process as a performance .
