James "Jimmy" Conrad (born February 12, 1977 in Temple City , California ) is a former American soccer player and currently hosts the YouTube channel KICKTV. In addition, Conrad was a national player for the United States and was nominated by Bruce Arena for the 2006 World Cup in Germany .
Athletic career
The defender learned to play soccer in the youth team at the Santa Anita Stallions , the student team at Temple City High School and in the Mountain View Youth Soccer League . In 1994 and 1995 he attended San Diego State University and was just as active in the university selection there as he was later at UCLA , for which he also completed two seasons and won the 1997 NCAA championship.
Conrad was outside the MLS draft system and then joined the A-League , a second-rate league in the United States, in 1998 , the now defunct club San Diego Flash , and won alongside Joe Cannon , his future teammate in San José , the championship in the Pacific Division . After only one year Conrad moved to the MLS for the San José Clash club (from 2000: "San José Earthquakes") and had 17 matches in his first season. In the second season he continued to develop into a regular player and stood in 25 appearances in all nine games of the club without conceding a goal. In addition, he was allowed to take part in a memorable game, despite a suspension, in the championship match against Los Angeles Galaxy at Rose Bowl Stadium , as the MLS and the opposing club allowed him to play in front of his seriously cancerous stepfather . After the end of the season, he also spent a short time on loan at the Polish club Lech Posen .
Due to a broken foot, Conrad had to take a break in the early stages of 2001. After his comeback , however, he played his way back into the regular formation and won the US championship with his club after a final victory over Galaxy with the MLS Cup . In his fourth and final season for the San José Earthquakes, Conrad was part of the second best defense in the league, but failed with his team in the quarter-finals against Columbus Crew .
Conrad then moved to the Kansas City Wizards in 2003, this transfer being linked to the commitment of Arturo Alvarez , who in turn could be hired through the draft system in San José. In Kansas , Conrad became a top performer right away, played in all 30 games and only missed 20 minutes. Just a year later he won the US Open Cup with his new club and was voted into the team of the season. He was also on the bench in the Allstar game and was among the top three players in the league's best defender.
In 2005 he won the election for best defender and was nominated again for the team of the season. He also made his international debut for the US national soccer team at the Gold Cup against Cuba on July 7, 2005 and later represented a league selection in a friendly against Real Madrid in the Spanish capital.
In May 2006 Bruce Arena announced that the central defender Conrad had been nominated for the soccer World Cup 2006 and surprised with this decision, since Conrad, as a relatively late appointed debutant at the age of 28, had little future prospect of a further national team career.
In December 2010, Conrad moved to CD Chivas USA within the MLS . Due to injury problems he only made two appearances for Chivas USA and announced his retirement from professional football on August 18, 2011.
