James "Jimmy" Oswald (born January 3, 1868 in Greenock , † February 26, 1948 ) was a Scottish football player .

Career

Jimmy Oswald was born in Greenock, about 25 miles west of Glasgow , in 1868 . He played for Third Lanark from at least 1888 to 1889 . With the club he won the Scottish Cup in the final against Celtic Glasgow in 1889 . After the final and a goal in the international match against England, he moved to the local first division club Notts County . There he lost the final with the Magpies for the FA Cup 1890/91 against the Blackburn Rovers with 1: 3. Oswald scored for the club from Nottingham . After four seasons in the top English division, which ended with relegation at the end of the 1892/93 season, Oswald moved back to Scotland. There he played from the 1893/94 season for the first division club FC St. Bernard’s , with whom he won the cup in 1895 . Then he was under contract with the Glasgow Rangers . In the league he was twice runner-up behind Celtic with the Rangers .

Between 1889 and 1897 Oswald completed three international matches for Scotland . On his debut on April 13, 1889 against England at the Kennington Oval , he scored a goal in the 3-2 Prestige win.
