João António da Silva Saraiva

João António da Silva Saraiva (born September 20, 1923 in Seia , † April 3, 1976 in Figueira da Foz ) was Bishop of Coimbra .

Life

João António da Silva Saraiva studied philosophy and received on 28 July 1946, the sacrament of Holy Orders in the Santi XII Apostoli . After becoming vice- rector of the Pontifical Portuguese College , he became its rector in 1960.

On August 30, 1965, Pope Paul VI appointed him . the titular bishop of Mopta while he appointed him auxiliary bishop in Évora . The Patriarch of Lisbon, Manuel Gonçalves Cerejeira , donated to him on 19 November of that year in the church Sant'Antonio dei Portoghesi the episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Lourenço , Custódio Alvim Pereira , and the Bishop of Guarda , Policarpo da Costa Vaz . Just two days later he moved to the diocese in Funchal . Finally, on June 28, 1972, he was appointed Bishop of Coimbra. On June 9, 1965 he received the Order of the Infante Dom Henrique .
