João d'Avila Moreira Lima

João d'Avila Moreira Lima (born August 30, 1919 in Itabirito , † September 30, 2011 in Rio de Janeiro ) was a Brazilian clergyman , theologian and auxiliary bishop in São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro .

Life

João d'Avila Moreira Lima studied Catholic theology and philosophy in Rome and was ordained a priest in Rome on April 8, 1944 . He was rector, spiritual director and professor of theology at the Archbishop's Seminary of St. Joseph.

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Lesina on June 21, 1982 and appointed him auxiliary bishop in São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro . The Archbishop of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro Eugênio Cardinal de Araújo Sales donated him episcopal ordination on August 24, 1982 ; Co-consecrators were José Alberto Lopes de Castro Pinto , Bishop in Guaxupé and Celso José Pinto da Silva , Bishop of Vitoria da Conquista . His motto was "In Verbo Tuo" (Luke 5.5).

On March 20, 2002, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
