Joachim Appel (born March 22, 1967 in Sonthofen ) is a former German ice hockey goalkeeper who played in the 1st Bundesliga at BSC Preussen and the Mannheim ERC as well as in the DEL at Adler Mannheim , Frankfurt Lions , Kassel Huskies and Hamburg Freezers was on the ice and is also known under the name Bibi Appel .
Player career
The 1.82 m tall left catcher began his career in the 1985/86 season at ERC Sonthofen in the 2nd Bundesliga , in 1989 he moved to the first division for BSC Prussia , for which he played 197 games in two seasons. In the last season in the history of the 1st Bundesliga as the highest German ice hockey league , Joachim Appel was on the ice for the Mannheim ERC , for whose DEL team Adler Mannheim he was between the posts until 1997, even after the German Ice Hockey League was founded. In 1997 he was also German ice hockey champion with this team .
After two years in the second highest division at EV Weiden ( 1997/98 ) and EC Bad Nauheim ( 1998/99 ) Appel signed a contract with the Frankfurt Lions , for which he completed 11 games. The goalkeeper played his last DEL season for the time being in 2000/01 for the Kassel Huskies , from which he moved to the 2nd division at EC Bad Nauheim. After another two years in the major league at ERC Haßfurt , Appel returned to the DEL to the Hamburg Freezers in November 2004 after the game was closed due to insolvency in Haßfurt , before ending his career at the age of 38.
