Joachim Gernhuber
Joachim Gernhuber (born July 18, 1923 in Książ , Poland ; † July 17, 2018 in Bonn ) was a German legal scholar and professor of civil law , German legal history, commercial law and private law at the University of Tübingen .
Life
Joachim Gernhuber, born in Książ (German: Xions ) as the son of a pastor, studied law at the University of Jena . He had to interrupt his studies because he was drafted into the armed forces . After being seriously injured in the war, he was able to continue his studies during wartime and in 1944 he passed the first state examination in law at the University of Jena. In 1947 he was in Jena with the investigation "The interlocutory judgment in German civil procedure" to Dr. iur. PhD. In 1948, Gernhuber completed his legal training at the Frankfurt Higher Regional Court with the second state examination. He then worked as a research assistant at the University of Bonn , where he completed his habilitation in 1951 with the study "The peace movement in Germany up to the Mainz Reichslandfrieden of 1235" .
In 1955 Gernhuber accepted a professorship at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel . In 1959 he moved to the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen , where he held the chair for civil law, German legal history, commercial law and private law until his retirement in 1988. In Tübingen he lived in the villa built in 1929 by the architect Ernst Breitling on the corner of Waldhäuser Strasse and Im Schönblick. He was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
Gernhuber is the father of the civil law professor Barbara Grunewald, who was born in 1951 .
