Joachim Heinrich Oppenheim

Joachim Heinrich Oppenheim , also Joachim Ḥayyim Oppenheim or Joachim Chajim [Chaim] Oppenheim or Joachim Oppenheim for short (born September 29, 1832 in Ivančice (then Eibenschütz), † April 27, 1891 in Berlin ), was a Moravian-Jewish scholar and author and rabbis in Jemnice, Ivančice and Toruń.

Life

Joachim Oppenheim received his first religious education from his father Bernhard Issachar Baer Oppenheim , the rabbi of Eibenschütz. 1849-1853 he attended grammar school in Brno and went to Vienna , where he conducted his Talmudic studies with Rabbi Lazar Horowitz at the University of Vienna . After he successfully completed his studies, he was called to Jemnice (then Jamnitz) in 1858, where he followed his brother David Oppenheim as rabbi, and in 1860 replaced his father in this position in Ivančice. From 1868 until his death he was a rabbi in Toruń . He died in Berlin, where he underwent an operation.

His son Berthold Oppenheim was a rabbi in Olomouc , his daughter Ida Oppenheim (1864–1935) wrote novels and ghetto stories.

Journalistic activity

Joachim Oppenheim can only show two independent publications:

  • The valley prayer , Vienna 1862
  • Toledot ha-Mishnah , Pressburg in 1882, originally in Bet Talmud published

However, he published (preferably in Hebrew) in numerous Jewish journals such as Frankel's Monthly , Homiletic Monthly of Sunshine, Jeschurun of Kobak, Ha-Maggid , Ha-Karmel , Ha-Shaḥar or Bet Talmud and in many Jewish yearbooks.
