Joachim Kuropka

Joachim Kuropka (born September 20, 1941 in Namslau , Silesia (since 1945 Namysłów , Poland )) is a German historian .

Life

Joachim Kuropka studied history , German and political science . He was born in 1978 with the work Image and Intervention. Inner situation of Germany and British strategies of influencing in the decision-making phase of World War I, PhD at the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster . In 1982 he was appointed to the professorship for modern history at the University of Vechta (then the Vechta location of the University of Osnabrück ). Together with Cornelius Riewerts, the then editor-in-chief of the “ Oldenburgische Volkszeitung ”, he founded the “Citizens' Initiative PRO UNI in the Oldenburger Münsterland” in 1991 and was involved with 23,000 members, including a. a. Gert Stuke , Wilfried Kürschner , Hans-Wilhelm Windhorst , Hermann von Laer , Volker Schulz , Cornelia Wienken , Franz Bölsker , (successfully) for maintaining the Vechta study location. In 1994 he was elected a full member of the Historical Commission for Westphalia . In 2006 he retired.

The main research area is the Nazi era, especially the Catholic Church and National Socialism . Since his retirement he has been involved in research on Catholicism at the Institute for History and Regional Research (now: Department for Cultural History and Comparative National Research of the Institute for Humanities and Cultural Studies) in Vechta. He is considered an expert on the life and work of Clemens August Graf von Galen . He has published numerous papers and academic articles on topics of Nazi and post-war history, including 20 books, well over 100 articles, published 14 anthologies and organized three extensive exhibitions.

Kuropka is a member of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem . In 1989 he was honored with the landscape medal of the Oldenburg landscape . In 2003 he was honored with the honorary plaque of the Heimatbund for the Oldenburger Münsterland and received the Order of Merit of Lower Saxony in 2010.

Joachim Kuropka has been married since 1977 and has two daughters with his wife Kornelia.
