Life

After graduating from high school in early 1984, Lenk joined the 28th Panzer Brigade in Dornstadt as a regular soldier . After completing his basic training, he worked there for almost four years in the S1 department, which was responsible for personnel processing. He was also employed as a photographer and supported the brigade commander in press and public relations work .

Countless field newspapers were produced under Lenk's direction . He also wrote two location brochures about the Rommel barracks in Dornstadt. He currently holds the rank of Major in the Reserve.

After leaving the German Armed Forces , Lenk volunteered for two years at the “ Waiblinger Kreiszeitung ” before he came to Münsingen for 15 years as an editor for “Alb Boten” ( Südwest Presse ). There he was responsible, among other things, for all matters relating to the Bundeswehr.

At the end of 2004 he published the reference work From the Snowshoe Company to the Tank Battalion, which reports on the eventful 90-year history of the New Camp in Münsingen, which became the Herzog-Albrecht-Kaserne in 1965.

Since his time in the German Armed Forces, he has also reported on the Eberhard Finckh barracks in Engstingen , which closed in 1993 and on the premises of which today's Haid industrial park was built. In 2006 the book Soldiers, Warheads and Live Ammunition was published .

In 2008 the last roll call appeared in Swabian Siberia . With more than 500 photos and illustrations, the author documents the military life of the Münsingen site with Breithülen and Feldstetten between 1895 and 2007.

In autumn 2010 he published a work with Leos, logisticians and aircraft that reports on the military base in Dornstadt. There has been a parade ground there since 1883, today's training ground, which is directly adjacent to the Rommel barracks, which has existed for almost 50 years. In addition, there was a military airfield in operation in the municipality with interruptions between 1917 and 1945.

Since the Münsingen military training area was connected to the railway network via the Reutlingen – Schelklingen railway at the Oberheutal loading station, in 2015 he published the book With the Locomotive to the Firing Range, a work on military transports on the Swabian Alb since 1845.

In 2017 the author published Little America Left and Right of the Danube on the history of the former US garrison in Ulm and Neu-Ulm from 1951 to 1991.

For 2020 he has announced the publication of the book Baracken, Bataillone und Bâtiments , which deals with the old camp in Münsingen.

Furthermore, in cooperation with the Wiedemann publishing house in Münsingen, he designed the military-historical leisure and hiking map of the former military training area Münsingen and the building and street map of the old camp / Albgut .
