Joachim Röhm (born May 2, 1947 in Stuttgart ) is a German translator of Albanian literature .

Life

After studying German at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen , he became a member of the Communist Party of Germany / Marxist-Leninists . At the suggestion of the party, he went to Albania with his wife in 1977 . There he worked for Radio Tirana and the state-owned publishing house for foreign language literature. Röhm learned the national language. In 1980 they returned to Germany. Here he worked in a factory and translated after work.

In 1986 the German-Albanian Friendship Society published the travel guide for Albania , which Röhm co-authored . By experiencing real socialism , he has meanwhile turned away from communist ideas.

He has been working as a freelance translator since 1990. Among other things, he translates Ismail Kadare's work into German.
