Joachim Ziegenrücker

Joachim Ziegenrücker (born January 27, 1912 in Kiel , † November 26, 2008 in Hamburg ) was a Protestant pastor . As a theologian he was director of the Evangelical Academy in Hamburg from 1963 to 1980 .

Ziegenrücker was active and known far beyond the Hanseatic city of Hamburg through his wide-ranging activities in and with the academy, through his advocacy for the younger generation, but also through building various bridges between the gospel and the educational world, between church and citizens, between Christians and Jews .

Life

Ziegenrücker's father was the German national politician and senior director of studies Emil Ziegenrücker . He attended the Luisengymnasium in Berlin and from 1931 studied law and theology in Königsberg, Berlin and Erlangen. After the handover of power to the National Socialists , he joined the NSDAP on April 1, 1933 . Ziegenrücker was an assistant at the Old Testament seminar at the Friedrich Wilhelm University in Berlin , had a teaching position for Hebrew at the University of Kiel , was parish pastor on Fehmarn and student pastor at the University of Kiel . From 1963 to 1980 he was director of the Evangelical Academy in Hamburg and then from 1980 to 1992 Federal Chairman of the Evangelical Working Group on Conscientious Objection and Peace (EAK). He was also a member of a committee set up by the EKD Council to deal with these questions .

Ziegenrücker, co-founder and chairman of the Society for Christian-Jewish Cooperation in Schleswig Holstein , was also chairman in Hamburg for almost 20 years.

In addition, Pastor Ziegenrücker held numerous other honorary positions, for example he was a board member of the civil aid organization ZUFLUCHT eV and one of the founding and advisory board members of the German section of the Society for Threatened Peoples in Göttingen . He was also a member of the advisory board of the Gustav Heinemann Initiative .
