Joachim Count von Schönburg-Glauchau

Joachim Graf von Schönburg-Glauchau (born February 4, 1929 in Glauchau , † September 29, 1998 in Passau ) was a German publicist and politician ( CDU ). He was family head of the line of the Counts of Schönburg-Glauchau of the noble house of Schönburg, which lived in what is now south - west Saxony until it was expelled in 1945 .

Life

He grew up in Wechselburg, Saxony . His parents were Carl Graf von Schönburg-Glauchau (1899–1945) and Maria Anna Baworowska. In 1945 he was expelled from his homeland by the Soviet occupation forces and the family was expropriated without compensation . He narrowly escaped arrest and deportation by the local communists .

After the war Joachim Graf von Schönburg-Glauchau worked as a journalist and author. In 1965 he went to Somalia on behalf of the Foreign Office to set up radio there. He lived in Africa with his family for five years.

Immediately after the fall of the Wall , he returned to his Saxon homeland and was a direct candidate for the Glauchau - Rochlitz - Hohenstein-Ernstthal - Hainichen ( Saxony ) constituency between 1990 and 1994, a member of the German Bundestag for the CDU. As part of the capital city resolution, he spoke out in the so-called Berlin debate on June 20, 1991 against a move of the Bundestag to Berlin.

But he was best known as a nature conservationist and hunting writer. His books include the humorous primer Der Jagdgast and the more factual Der deutsche Jäger .

He spent the last years of his life as a tenant in the former Schönburg Castle in Rochsburg , where he was also a member of the Lunzenau city ​​council from 1994 to 1997 . Marked by a serious illness, he moved to Passau in 1997, where he died a little later. He was buried in the basilica in Wechselburg .
