Jobst I. (Schaumburg)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jobst I. von Holstein-Schauenburg (* 1483 ; † June 5, 1531 ) was Count of Holstein-Schauenburg from 1527 .

Life

Jobst was the only child of Johann IV von Holstein-Schauenburg (* 1449; † March 30, 1527) and Cordula von Gehmen († 1528). In addition to the Stammgrafschaft Schaumburg , he ruled Holstein-Pinneberg and the rule of Gemen . During his reign, the Reformation spread to the areas around his lands . Jobst, however, was a supporter of Catholicism and procured spiritual benefices for several of his sons . He died just four years after his father. His oldest surviving son, Adolf , who was appointed clergyman , took over the government at the age of 20.

The streets Josthöhe and Jostweg in Hamburg-Hummelsbüttel , which at that time belonged to the County of Holstein-Pinneberg, were named after him.
