Jocelyne Roy-Vienneau

Jocelyne Roy-Vienneau , ONB (* 1956 in Newcastle , New Brunswick as Jocelyne Roy ; † August 2, 2019 ) was a Canadian engineer . Since 2014, she has been the incumbent lieutenant governor of the province of New Brunswick and as such represented the head of state, Queen Elizabeth II , at the provincial level.

biography

Jocelyne Roy grew up in the small francophone town of Robertville in Gloucester County and was one of the first women to graduate from the Université de Moncton with an engineering degree. She first worked for several years for the oil refinery of Imperial Oil in Montreal , before returning to New Brunswick and struck a career in education. She then became the first woman to run a French-speaking vocational school in New Brunswick . She later served as the senior post-secondary education officer for the provincial government. From 2005 she was the first vice-president of a campus at the Université de Moncton. She also worked for various organizations in the fields of welfare and education.

She was married to the judge Ronald Vienneau and had two children.

On the advice of Prime Minister Stephen Harper , Roy-Vienneau was appointed lieutenant governor of New Brunswick as the first female academic , and on October 23, 2014, she was appointed to this representative office by Governor General David Johnston .
