Jochen Bepler

Jochen Bepler (born June 13, 1951 in Frankfurt am Main ; † June 9, 2015 in Braunschweig ) was a German librarian .

Life

Jochen Bepler was born in Frankfurt am Main in 1951, his brother is the lawyer Klaus Bepler .

From 1970 to 1979 he studied German and history in Marburg and Freiburg im Breisgau with the aim of obtaining a doctorate. He then worked as a research assistant with a research grant at the Herzog August Library in Wolfenbüttel. From 1986 he also received his training in librarianship at the Herzog August Library in Wolfenbüttel and at the University of Applied Sciences for Library and Documentation in Cologne . The dissertation announced in 1987 did not reach its conclusion. He then headed the city ​​library in Wolfenbüttel.

From 1989 he was a scientific librarian in the Hildesheim Cathedral Library, a library with an important historical book inventory that became an independent institution in 1993. Jochen Bepler was appointed its director in 1993 and was this until his death in 2015. During his tenure, he oversaw the publication of the facsimile edition of the Albani Psalter .

From 1997 to 2011 Bepler was chairman of the Working Group on Catholic Theological Libraries . He was still active in the field of book restoration and binding research .
