Joe Dyson

Joseph "Joe" Dyson Jr. (* 1990 in New Orleans ) is an American modern jazz musician ( drums ) .

Live and act

Dyson, who comes from a musical family in New Orleans, began playing drums in his father's church with other family members as a young child. His musical education began at Mc Donogh Creative Arts Elementary School in New Orleans and continued at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts . Dyson has expanded his skills over the years as a participant in various workshops and summer camps, such as at the New Jazz School. He has received numerous scholarships, including the Presidential Scholarship at Berklee College of Music , where he graduated with honors from his bachelor's degree. There he studied with Donald Harrison , Alvin Batiste , Clyde Kerr , Herlin Riley , Chico Hamilton , Adonis Rose and Jerry McGowan .

Dyson has been working as a drummer since the mid-2000s. a. with Nicholas Payton , Donald Harrison ( Evolution ), Dr. Lonnie Smith ( All in My Mind ) and Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah ( Stretch Music ); He also took part in recordings by The Ellis Marsalis Center Jazz Orchestra ( Silverbook Project, Vol. 1 ), Delfeayo Marsalis / The Uptown Jazz Orchestra, Sullivan Fortner ( ARIA , Impulse!), Andrew Baham, Aldan Carroll and Calvin Johnson . Dyson currently leads a quintet that includes Giveton Gelin (trumpet), Zaccai Curtis (piano) and Dezron Douglas (bass). In the field of jazz he was involved in 14 recording sessions between 2005 and 2018. Since 2015 Dyson has been teaching as an associate professor in the jazz program at Tulane University .
