Joel McKinnon Miller

Joel McKinnon Miller (born February 21, 1960 ) is an American actor. He is best known for his roles in the American television series Big Love as Don Embry and Detective Norman Scully in Brooklyn Nine-Nine .

Life

Miller, who grew up in Rockford, Minnesota, took singing lessons as a teenager for a later career as an opera singer and then studied drama at the University of Minnesota Duluth . He broke off his studies in 1980 shortly before finishing his studies, but did so in 2007.

Before starring in the television series Big Love , he starred in three episodes as Lyle Nubbin in the television series Las Vegas . Since 1991 he has worked as a guest actor in various US TV series, including Cold Case , Murphy Brown , The Commish , Curb Your Enthusiasm , Pacific Blue , Dharma & Greg , The X Files , ER , Malcolm in the Middle , Roswell , CSI: Crime Scene Investigation , Deadwood , Six Feet Under , Desperate Housewives , Boston Legal , The Closer, and Everybody Loves Raymond .

His biggest role in a movie to date is in the 2003 television movie Secret Santa . He was also featured in The Truman Show , Galaxy Quest , Rush Hour 2 and Men in Black II . For the voice of Bromley in the animated film The Swan Princess (German title: Die Schwanenprinzessin ). Since 2013 he has been an integral part of the television series Brooklyn Nine-Nine as Detective Norman Scully.
