Johan Åkerman (born November 20, 1972 in Stockholm ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player who was among other things active in the German ice hockey league with the Kölner Haien .
Career
Johan Åkerman began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Tranebergs IF. He then played from 1991 to 1994 in his first station in professional ice hockey for Hammarby IF in Division 1, which was then still second class . The defender also played for AIK Solna in the Elitserien for three years . During his first engagement abroad, he won the national championship with Vålerenga IF from the Norwegian GET league in 1998 and 1999 .
After returning to Sweden, Åkerman played from 1999 to 2006 for a total of seven years in the second-rate HockeyAllsvenskan for Skellefteå AIK , with whom he was promoted to the Elitserien in the 2005/06 season. During his time in the Swedish second division, he was regularly one of the most successful points suppliers among the league's defenders. From 2006 to 2008 the national player was under contract with HV71 , with whom he became Swedish champions in the 2007/08 season . As the defender with the highest points in the playoffs, he contributed significantly to this success. He was also elected to the league's all-star team.
For the 2008/09 season , the Swede moved to Lokomotive Yaroslavl in the newly founded Continental Hockey League . With his team he failed in the playoffs for the Gagarin Cup only in the final at Ak Bars Kazan . After a season at HC Lugano in the Swiss National League A , he joined the Cologne Sharks from the German Ice Hockey League for the 2010/11 season . In April 2011 he signed a contract for the following season with Linköpings HC in the Elitserien, because he wanted to go back to his home country for family reasons. On January 16, 2012, Åkerman moved again to the Kölner Haien, with whom he received a contract until the end of the season . After that season, Åkerman ended his active career.
International
For Sweden , Åkerman took part in the 2007 and 2009 World Championships . For his home country played a total of 68 games up to and including August 2010, in which he scored nine goals and made 20 assists.
