Military career

As a volunteer in 1692 joined Lillie in the garrison regiment of Malmo one. In 1693 he was assigned to the body regiment on foot. In early 1700 he was promoted to sergeant in the Älvsborg infantry regiment. In July 1700 he was appointed ensign and in 1701 promoted to lieutenant. In 1703 Lillie was appointed quartermaster in this regiment . He was appointed captain in 1704 and major in 1710.

Lille was distinguished by bravery and courage during the Battle of Helsingborg in February 1710.

In the battle of Gadebusch he continued his regiment after the death of the regimental commander Colonel Baron Fleetwood. For this brave demeanor during the battle, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. After the surrender of the Swedish general Magnus Stenbock and the end of the siege of Tönning, he went into Danish captivity .

On his return in 1716 he was appointed temporary commandant of Nya Elfsborg in the port of Gothenburg . In 1719 he successfully defended the fortress against the attack of the Danish captain Peter Wessel Tordenskiold . Although the losses of the fortress garrison were devastating and the fortress was badly damaged, he responded to the Danish request for the surrender of the fortress: Better to be brought back to Gothenburg as a dead Lillie than to be a living Henrich Danckwardt. (Henrich Danckwardt was the commandant of Marstrand, he handed the fortress over to the Danes. He was sentenced to loss of honor, property and life and was executed by cutting off his head in 1720.)

This attitude brought Lillie a lot of recognition and she was raised to the baron status in gratitude . Introduced in 1720 under the number 168. In 1719 he was appointed commander of Gothenburg and in 1720 commander of Vaxholm Fortress .

In 1722 he was promoted to colonel. Six years later, Lillie was appointed commander of the Älvsborg Infantry Regiment, the regiment of his home province.

Lillie died in Hjärtared on October 19, 1738. He was buried with his wife and four of his children in the church of Tvärred ( Ulricehamn parish ).
