Johannes Abromeit

Johannes Abromeit (born February 17, 1857 in Paschleitschen ( Kraupischken parish , Ragnit parish , East Prussia ), † January 19, 1946 in Jena ) was a German botanist . Its official botanical author abbreviation is Abrom.

Life

Johannes Abromeit first attended the higher middle school in Gumbinnen and then switched to the "Realgymnasium auf der Burg" in Königsberg . He studied at the University of Königsberg and received his doctorate in 1884 under Robert Caspary . From 1888 he worked as an assistant at the Botanical Institute in Königsberg. He worked on the plants that Ernst Vanhöffen had brought from West Greenland in 1892 . In 1895 Abromeit was elected a member of the Leopoldina Scholars' Academy . In 1898 his book Flora von West- und Ostpreußen was published . In 1912 he was named associate professor at the university. His herbarium burned during the fighting for Königsberg. He himself fled to Jena in 1944 because of the war.

Dedication names

The German botanist Carl Christian Mez named in his honor, the plant genus Abromeitia from the family of Myrsinengewächse (Myrsinaceae) and the genus Abromeitiella (according to the latest in the genre Deuterocohnia filed) from the family of bromeliads (Bromeliaceae).
