Johann August Rienäcker (born November 7, 1779 in Güntersberge , † September 26, 1859 in Halle an der Saale ) was a German Evangelical Reformed theologian and author.

Life

Rienäcker studied in Berlin and Halle, became a teacher in Bernburg and then a candidate for the ministry in Berlin. In 1807 he came as the third preacher to the Halle Cathedral . In 1809 he moved to the second position, in 1837 to the first position. The following year he became superintendent . The University of Halle awarded him an honorary doctorate in philosophy in 1830 and an honorary doctorate in theology in 1834 . In 1849, on the 50th anniversary of his ordination, he received the Order of the Red Eagle and the House Order of Albrecht the Bear . In 1850 he resigned from his position as superintendent, and in 1855 he was retired .

A number of his sermons appeared in print. He published essays on Georg Witzel , the Heidelberg Catechism , Friedrich Schleiermacher and Lessing , the Decalogue and the doctrine of the devil . His particular interest in Greece and the Middle East is reflected in several individual publications.

Rienäcker had been one of Schleiermacher's acquaintances since his training in Berlin and was in correspondence with him. He was married to a born Rudolph ; the couple had four children. He was a member of the Halle Masonic lodge to the three swords .
