Johann Baptist Hergenröther

Johann Baptist Hergenröther (also Johannes ; born February 14, 1780 in Bischofsheim an der Rhön , † June 15, 1835 in Bamberg ) was a German Roman Catholic clergyman and theologian .

Life

Hergenröther came from a Catholic shoemaker family . The local teacher discovered the boy's talent, but first had to assert himself against the resistance of his father in order to enable him to continue his education. After further training in Bischofsheim, he graduated from the Würzburg high school in 1791 . He then went to the University of Würzburg to study theology and entered the local seminary . In September 1805 he was ordained a priest .

Hergenröther was initially a chaplain in his hometown for a year , then from 1806 to 1816 a chaplain in Ettleben . There he devoted one hand the further studies that finally in 1818 with the promotion of Dr. phil. was crowned at the Würzburg University, on the other hand, he started next to the carving of agriculture turn and became a member of the Agricultural Association of Bavaria . He was also a member of the Association for the Improvement of the Arts and Business . In 1816 he went to Rottenbauer as Curatus .

Hergenröther initially rejected a reputation as a royal professor from Würzburg to the school and took subsequent reputation of 6 May 1818 as director of the Würzburg teacher seminar. He worked there until October 1832. That year he was suddenly and unexpectedly retired . In December of that year he was finally transferred to Bamberg as pastor of the Church of Our Lady . He died of a failed bloodletting .
